GTA VI: everything Rockstar has officially confirmed before November 19
Release date, platforms, editions, pre-orders, pre-load and story: what Rockstar has actually announced for GTA VI, and what is still unconfirmed.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Thursday, November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Six weeks out, "things we learned" lists and rumors are everywhere. Here we stick to what Rockstar Games and PlayStation have written on their websites, Newswire, stores and support pages, then look at what remains unconfirmed. This article will be updated with every official announcement.
One date, after two delays
Revealed in December 2023 with a 2025 target, GTA VI was first dated for May 26, 2026. On November 6, 2025, Rockstar moved it to November 19, 2026, apologizing for adding to an already long wait and explaining that the extra months would let it finish the game with the level of polish players expect. The date has not moved since: it is the one shown on the official page, the Rockstar Store and the support site.
Two platforms, and only two
The game is announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar's support page, which answers "What platforms will Grand Theft Auto VI be on?", lists only those two consoles. The PlayStation Store page adds that the game is enhanced for PS5 Pro and will not be playable on PS4. Rockstar describes GTA VI as a single-player experience. In Europe, the PlayStation Store lists it as PEGI 18.
It will be sold on the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Store and at retailers.
Jason, Lucia and the state of Leonida
GTA VI is set in the fictional state of Leonida, home to Vice City. It follows a duo:
- Lucia Caminos, who learned to fight young and ended up in Leonida Penitentiary after fighting for her family. Now out, she wants the good life her mom has dreamed of since their days in Liberty City;
- Jason Duval, who served in the Army before working for local drug runners.
According to the official site, an easy score gone wrong drops them into a criminal conspiracy stretching across the whole state. The game page also introduces other characters and places in Leonida.
Trailers and videos
Rockstar has released two trailers, in December 2023 and May 2025, and, in late August 2026, Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, a long presentation built entirely from PS5 footage. They are all gathered on the official page, along with videos focused on Jason and Lucia.
Editions, prices and pre-orders
Pre-orders have been open since June 25, 2026. There are two editions:
- Standard: €79.99 on the European PlayStation Store, $79.99 in the US;
- Ultimate: €99.99, or $99.99 in the US. It adds an exclusive collection of vehicles, weapons, apparel and activities tied to Jason and Lucia's story, including a property (the PTT Youngin$ Compound) and a classic car collection, according to the Rockstar Store. The PlayStation Store also lists an upgrade from Standard to Ultimate.
Two bonuses come on top:
- every pre-order or purchase before November 20 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack;
- digital pre-orders include a free month of GTA+, the GTA Online membership, which also unlocks GTA V and other Rockstar games in its library. On PlayStation, you have to claim it yourself on the GTA+ store page, and it then renews as a paid subscription unless you cancel.
Pre-load and the boxed version
If you pre-order digitally, pre-loading starts on Thursday, November 12 at midnight, local time, so you can play on the 19th. The physical version reaches stores the same day, November 12, but note that the box contains no disc, only a download code. A code redeemed before launch also starts pre-loading on the 12th.
Around the game
- Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album releases on November 19, the same day as the game.
- At the September 3 State of Play, Sony revealed two limited-edition DualSense controllers, one black and one white, with a color-shifting finish and palm trees molded into the shell. They launch on November 19 at €84.99 / £74.99 / $84.99, in limited quantities. In France and the other countries where direct.playstation.com operates, the black one is sold exclusively there; the white one is also available at retailers.
The road to launch
- Thursday, November 12: pre-load begins and boxed copies (with a code) go on sale.
- Thursday, November 19: the game launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, along with the album and the controllers.
- Friday, November 20: the Vintage Vice City Pack offer ends; it only covers purchases made before that date.
What is not confirmed
- PC version: no announcement. Rockstar only lists PS5 and Xbox Series; the dates going around are speculation.
- Performance: Rockstar has published no resolution or frame rate figures.
- Online mode: Rockstar and PlayStation call GTA VI a single-player experience, and no multiplayer mode has been detailed for launch.
If Rockstar hasn't written it, it isn't confirmed: be wary of articles listing "new discoveries" without citing a source. Every date for the month is in our November calendar.
