Tomb Raider turns 30: what we know about Legacy of Atlantis, due February 12

Tomb Raider turned 30 on Saturday, October 24: Core Design's original game, released in 1996, launched Lara Croft's career. To mark the occasion, the series team has released a lo-fi album, new artwork and a teaser for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, the new version of that first game, due on Friday, February 12, 2027.

A full remake of the 1996 game

Legacy of Atlantis is not a simple remaster: Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are rebuilding the game from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. Lara hunts for the pieces of the Scion, an ancient artifact, from the jungles of Peru to the ruins of ancient Greece, the deserts of Egypt and a Mediterranean island. The puzzles of Peru's Lost Valley have been redesigned and connected to new areas, and the cog puzzle returns in a reworked form. Lara is voiced by Alix Wilton Regan.

The game launches on PS5, Xbox Series, PC (Steam) and Switch 2, on the same day everywhere. Pre-orders are open on every platform except Switch 2, where they will open later, with no date announced yet.

Editions and prices

• Standard: €59.99 on the European PlayStation Store. Pre-order it and you get the Survivor outfit.
• Deluxe: €69.99. It adds the Parisian Fugitive outfit and a post-launch story DLC pack. Pre-ordered, it lets you play 48 hours early, from Wednesday, February 10.
• Collector's: everything in the Deluxe, plus a steel case, a statue of Lara facing a T-Rex, a mini art book, a pin and a keychain. Its price isn't listed on the official pages we checked.

What the anniversary brings

The team celebrated the anniversary at TR30 Tomb Raider Day, the annual fan event in Derby, England, Core Design's hometown. Here's what's on offer:

• Tomb Raider: 30th Anniversary Lo-Fi Collection: music from the series remixed by ThatNorskChick, with lines recorded by Alix Wilton Regan. The album is streaming on the official YouTube channel and is coming to other streaming services soon.
• More than 500 tracks from the series' official soundtracks are expected on streaming services in November, with no exact date yet.
• Free artwork and wallpapers on the official Flickr account, including a tarot-style card pairing Core Design's Lara with the Legacy of Atlantis Lara, and an animation of Lara in her Croft Manor study, packed with Easter eggs.

A "30th Anniversary" teaser for Legacy of Atlantis also went live over the weekend, as Gematsu reported. The team has promised a recap of the Derby event: if it brings new details on the game, we'll update this article.
