GameMaker's next-generation runtime, GMRT, will be free for commercial use from January 1, 2027. Developers will be able to release games on desktop, mobile, web and GX Games without buying a Professional licence.

Source code access for GMRT will be available across every licence tier. Professional licence holders can still distribute games made with the GMS2 runtime commercially, and gain access to its source code too. Tier pricing does not change.

Console export still requires an Enterprise licence and approval as a developer, whichever runtime is used. GMRT is still rolling out in beta, according to Russell Kay, Head of GameMaker.
