Tales of Eternia Remastered: what to know before the October 16 launch
Tales of Eternia Remastered launches Friday, October 16 on PS5, Xbox, Switch, Switch 2 and PC: the story, the 2D combat and what the remaster changes.
Tales of Eternia Remastered launches on Friday, October 16, 2026 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2 and PC (Steam). Bandai Namco is bringing back one of the most iconic entries in its "Tales of" series, remastered for the first time. Here is what you need to know before launch.
Two worlds on a collision course
The story takes place on Eternia, a world split into two isolated realms, Inferia and Celestia. In the remote Inferian village of Rasheans, Reid Hershel and his childhood friend Farah Oersted meet a mysterious girl, Meredy. While trying to find out where she comes from, they learn that a catastrophe called the "Great Fall", a collision between the two worlds, threatens them both.
To stop it, Reid and his companions call on the power of the Greater Craymels, elemental spirits, on a journey across both realms.
Fast-paced 2D combat
Like other "Tales of" games, Eternia plays as a real-time action RPG. Its battle system, the Aggressive Linear Motion Battle System (A-LMBS), takes place in 2D: you chain combos, use a wide range of Artes (the series' special techniques) and coordinate with the other party members, each with their own style.
What the remaster changes
Bandai Namco promises the same story and the same fast-paced gameplay, with improved visuals and a number of quality-of-life features:
- destination icons, so you always know where to go next;
- an option to turn off enemy encounters;
- a high-speed mode during auto-battles;
- the ability to switch at any time between the remastered graphics and sound and those of the original game.
The game is single-player only.
Who is making it
The remaster is developed by TOSE and published by Bandai Namco. It is the latest entry in the Tales of Remastered Project, Bandai Namco's initiative to bring back older games in the series on current platforms.
