Don't Nod seeks court protection, Xbox fills its late-year schedule and Cyberpunk 2077 gets a free update on Thursday: here's what mattered yesterday.

Don't Nod enters safeguard proceedings

The Paris Business Court opened safeguard proceedings for Don't Nod, the studio behind Life is Strange, Jusant and Aphelion, on Monday, October 19. The process gives it a six-month observation period to secure financing while it keeps operating. Its cash fell from €15.5 million to €9.9 million in the first half, and the company says its future beyond January 31, 2027 is uncertain without outside funding. The ongoing restructuring plan could cut up to 85 jobs in France, while the Montreal studio, which is making a narrative game based on a Netflix property, is unaffected (PC Gamer looks back at the studio's troubles since 2024).

Cyberpunk 2077: free 2.5 update on Thursday

CD Projekt Red releases Cyberpunk 2077's free 2.5 update on Thursday, October 22, named the Edgerunners 2 Update after the anime's second season, which landed on Netflix on Tuesday. You'll be able to customize your cyberware and pick up a new dual-wielding playstyle, according to CD Projekt Red. The studio will show it in detail today at 5 PM CEST on a REDstreams broadcast on Twitch, YouTube and Steam.

Fight Night is coming back

EA announced on Tuesday that Fight Night, its boxing series dormant since 2011's Fight Night Champion, is returning, in the first post from a new X account for the series, IGN and VGC report. No platforms, release date or developer have been named yet.

Riders Republic hits Switch 2 on December 9

Ubisoft will release Riders Republic on Switch 2 on Wednesday, December 9, as the game turns five. The same day, every version gets an offline mode that covers most single-player content and syncs your progress once you reconnect. Before that, the game is free to try from Thursday, October 22 to Monday, October 26.

Helldivers 2 switches to Easy Anti-Cheat

Arrowhead replaced GameGuard with Easy Anti-Cheat in Helldivers 2 on Tuesday, October 20, admitting the old system wasn't as effective as it could have been (Arrowhead's Steam post). The studio is also cracking down on recent cheat mods, some of which went as far as manipulating the Galactic War. As a result, some mods, especially those affecting other players, no longer work, and harmless cosmetic mods may need updates from their creators. Hardware requirements don't change, and Steam Deck and Linux play still works.

Crimson Desert: what Charting the Unknown adds

Crimson Desert's Charting the Unknown expansion, due on Thursday, October 29, adds three new storylines, one each for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane, available once the main story is done (Pearl Abyss overview). The heroes can now dive into Pywel's underwater world, full of ruins, treasure chests and creatures, and a ship you build yourself carries you across the Great Ocean. Bonds with some of the locals can grow into romance and even marriage, and an upgraded housing system lets you build a home from the ground up. Platforms and the delay from October 15 to October 29 are on our expansion page.
