Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, the 2002 giant monster fighting game, returns on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 as a remaster on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2 and PC (Steam). Atari is publishing it, and Pipeworks, the studio behind the original, handled the new version in partnership with Toho. The PlayStation Store lists it as unlocking at 2:00 PM UTC.

The same game, rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5

The idea hasn't changed: pick a kaiju and fight in an arena where everything can be destroyed. Atari says the game has been rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, in 4K, while staying as close as possible to how the original played. Each monster has its own moveset, mixing melee attacks, energy beams and special Rage Mode moves, and you can score points by levelling the city or by playing tactically.

12 monsters and 8 arenas

The remaster features 12 playable kaiju, including the Showa-era Mechagodzilla. Fights take place across 8 locations, with real cities such as Tokyo and San Francisco, Monster Island and the Alien Mothership, each with day and night versions. Every kaiju has its own single-player campaign.

What's changed since 2002

  • Online play: on top of local multiplayer for one to four players, two players can now face off online (PlayStation Plus required on PS5).
  • More flexible unlocks: monsters, arenas and gallery items are unlocked with in-game currency, in whatever order you like.
  • Modern controllers: on PS5, the game uses the DualSense's haptics and adaptive triggers, and Remote Play is supported.

Physical versions

Alongside the digital releases, the game is coming to stores on PS5 and Switch 2, where the cartridge holds the full game. Atari announced US prices: $29.99 for the digital version and the PS5 disc, and $39.99 for the Switch 2 cartridge. European prices aren't listed on the official stores we checked.

A demo was available on Steam in October so you could try the game ahead of launch. It's one of this week's releases, all listed in our November 2 to 8 schedule, and on its game page.
