About the game

Final Fantasy Resonance is based on the first story arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, a mobile game. Square Enix stresses that it is not a direct port: the story has been extensively rebuilt as a full-fledged console RPG. It is also the first HD-2D Final Fantasy, with retro-inspired graphics that push pixel art further.

You follow Rain, Lasswell and Fina, among others, in the Kingdom of Grandshelt, against Veritas of the Dark. The world brings back series staples: crystals, chocobos, espers, airships and moogles.

Combat is turn-based: exploit enemy weaknesses and break them to stop them from acting, then chain extra actions and Resonance attacks. Visions, echoes of series heroes such as Cloud, Tidus and the Warrior of Light, fight alongside your party with their own abilities, and Sephiroth can be found and challenged for a special reward.

A free demo covers the opening through the end of the first chapter (3 to 5 hours, according to Square Enix), and save data carries over to the full game. Voice acting is in English and Japanese.
